Wings - stub spar (forward spar)

The forward spar was fun and easy to work on because the materials were thicker aluminium.

Here we see the finished product and a walk-through of all the countersunk holes I drilled.

EMPENNAGE DONE

Everything from the tailkit is done.. except for:

  1. Stabilator fairings (they'll come in the finishing kit)
  2. Stabilator re-inforcement due to the new Service Bulletin of 2018.
  3. Rudder/VS fairings
I really want to do all the plastics on one day...  but if I have some downtime, I may do it early.

Heres the last look inside, now that its all closed up.  The static lines have been run.

Attaching the Horizontal Stabilator

Hello from the future.  Here is a back-dated photo of the HS being attached.

NOTE:  This will need to come back off -- there is a service bulletin on it concerning reinforcing the forward side of the HS spar.  Apparently there was a plane that had some cracking in that area.

Attaching the Vertical Stabilizer

Hello from the future!  Here is the video of the rudder being attached.   Apparently no videos of attaching the vertical stabilizer.. however, you can see all of the bolts in the back holding it on..   and on the front of the VS, there is a tab there that has a few bolts

Tailcone - Part 5 - Closing it up

I took these videos sometime between August 2017 and November 2017..  I stopped posting for awhile and let videos accumulate on my phone.. Lost the exact dates when I transfered the videos to the computer.

Here is a walkthrough of the tailcone without the top skin.  Its the last time you can see ALL the rivets in the tailcone.

Tailcone - Part 4

The side skins are on.  Again, there was a little bit of wrangling to be done with those frames.  I found the best way to get these skins on is to start from the rear, about 6 inches from the rear..  and start to insert rivets in every other hole, cleco as you go.  That works great..and easily until you get to the forwardmost frame.  It seemed like I had to pull the skin away, and slightly bend the entire skin so that the holes were facing upward a little (I don't know how else to describe it).

Anyhow, once the line was riveted, I went back and did the rivets in the frame.

At this point, you need to run the elevator trim control wires, and the static and pitot tubes.

Next step is adding the RTV silicone around the static ports..  finishing the rear bulkhead.. placing the last three skins, the VS forward attachment.

Wings: Left bottom skin (all of them)

It so purdy!  This actually wasn't as much work as I thought it would be.  the bottom skin went on quickly.  I used the method of se...
